Forest Trail

Hiking Charlies Bunion

I shot this rose-colored black and white photograph along the trail while hiking to Charlies Bunion. Yes, an odd name – in 1929, two mountain guides from Oconaluftee, North Carolina climbed the area to inspect damage after a recent fire. With a sore foot from hiking, Charlie removed his shoe…the rest is history. The lesson: never underestimate the value of quality footwear! Putting aside the imagery that that description may elicit, you may enjoy a print of this rocky trail in your home of office. You can visit my gallery to select from a variety of museum quality prints.

Short Road Trip

On a recent road trip to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, I stopped at a pullover along the (old) Foothills Parkway to watch the sunrise. Then, I continued driving to Little River and enjoyed walking in shallow water while taking a few more photographs…

Imperfection

In my considered opinion, its absolutely true – imperfections are perfectly beautiful. Unique characteristics provide interest and greater beauty than that which is otherwise commonplace. Relative to this vintage glass macro photography, it’s the air bubbles, variations in thickness of glass, color and discolorations, pitted surface, etc., which make it especially appealing.

Blue Hole Falls

Located in the Cherokee National Forest along Mill Creek, near the town of Elizabethton, Tennessee, the picturesque Blue Hole Falls consists of four small waterfalls. Featured here, waterfall number two. Prints available.

Black And White Laurel Fork

After hiking along the Appalachian Trail to Charlies Bunion from the Newfound Gap area, located in the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, I took another trail to enjoy the view from The Jump Off. Bridge Over Laurel Fork

Prints available. I photographed this wooden foot bridge over Laurel Fork while on the hiking trail to Laurel Falls, in the Cherokee National Forest near Hampton, Tennessee. Many print types are available.

Rhododendron Flower

Prints available. This digital artwork is based on a photograph I shot on a recent hike to Laurel Falls, in the Cherokee National Forest of Tennessee. It’s a rhododendron flower very common in regional mountain settings. It’s classified as a genus of shrubs and small trees, though the largest variety is reportedly 100-feet tall. This print would look great in your home!

Blue Hole Falls

Waterfalls Galore

This photograph of Blue Hole Falls features the third and forth waterfall, standing 12-feet and 15-feet tall, respectively. Located near Elizabethton, Tennessee, it’s an easy area for hiking to enjoy nature. And, it’s even easier to enjoy a print of your own at home.

A Precious Soul

Calmly pouring a dab of sugar-water into her hand, I watched as she positioned it under a ray of morning sunlight.

It glistened as I listened to the sound of a faint fluttering, slowly growing stronger.

Soon, a hummingbird appeared, pausing briefly to glance my way before proceeding to drink from her palm, thirsty and trusting.

From a precious soul, precious love emanated from her eyes in sharing and caring for this small, delicate creature.

I’d never seen a bird smile before that day, and I’ll always treasure the beauty in her eyes – a joy in my heart.
