Lower Greeter Falls

Prints available. Located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area , on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee, USA, Lower Greeter Falls is a beautiful waterfall that stands 50-feet tall and flows from Firescald Creek. It’s a short hike along a moderately difficult trail with elevation changes, rocks and mud, and includes a 24-step spiral metal staircase down to the falls – one of my favorite places to visit!

Boardtree Falls

Following my visit to Upper Greeter Falls, I returned to the Greeter Falls Loop trail and hiked to Boardtree Falls, a scenic two-tiered waterfall in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area.

Look closely and you’ll see two people sitting on top of the falls –

Upper Greeter Falls

Located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, near Altamont, TN – and only a short hike from Lower Greeter Falls – is the 15-foot Upper Greeter Falls.

Along the trail, I spoke with a local who remarked that the water was higher than she could remember – here are a few photographs:

Further upstream beyond more trees and rocks, I saw these falls…

Lower Greeter Falls

Although drier conditions prevailed during my first visit to Lower Greeter Falls last autumn, recent rainfall provided for stunning views this time around! Located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area of Tennessee, it’s a short hike along a moderately difficult trail with elevation changes, rocks and mud.

Location

Flowing from Firescald Creek, Lower Greeter Falls stands approximately 50-feet tall, with access to the base of the falls requiring hikers to traverse a 24-step spiral metal stairwell. Easy enough, and the views are great! With no railing at the top, however, parents should closely monitor children.

When I was through hiking the trail to the Stone Door and several scenic overlooks, I returned to my vehicle and drove to another area of the Savage Gulf State Natural Area – that being, Greeter Falls.

Greeter Falls

From the trailhead I followed the Greeter Falls Loop, which passes by another waterfall, Boardtree Falls. Unfortunately, there was no falling water – not even a drip! Moving right along, I arrived at a spiral staircase leading to the base of Greeter Falls.

Despite a minimal flow of water, I enjoyed a peaceful time at Greeter Falls for over an hour, as I was the only person on site. These falls are two-tiered, consisting of a 15′ (not seen) and 50′ drop. Here are a few photographs –
