Visiting Ozone Falls

On the eastern edge of the Crab Orchard Mountains on the Cumberland Plateau, Ozone Falls is the third tallest waterfall in Tennessee, standing 110-feet tall.

Similar to other waterfalls dependent on small creeks, the volume of water flowing is closely correlated with rainfall and the time of year. On my recent visit, the water was low, but the scenery is always a treat! From the small parking area, it’s an easy hike on a flat surface to see the top of the falls, though the trek to the basin is more challenging, rocky – use caution.

Return To Ozone Falls

See Earlier Post: Ozone Falls State Natural Area

With camera in hand, I recently traveled to middle Tennessee to hike Black Mountain (more on that another time) and Ozone Falls. Situated in the Crab Orchard Mountains on the Cumberland Plateau, this waterfall stands 110-feet and is the 3rd-tallest in Tennessee. Following significant rainfall, the thunderous sound of crashing water echoed throughout the gorge, with a wind-driven column of mist surrounding the plunge pool.

Ozone Falls State Natural Area

See Recent Post: Return To Ozone Falls

Welcome

Situated on the eastern edge of the Crab Orchard Mountains on the Cumberland Plateau, in Cumberland County, Tennessee, Ozone Falls is the third tallest waterfall in the state with an elevation of 110-feet. And, after splashing into the plunge pool, Fall Creek disappears underground – like magic! Approximately 30-feet away, however, the creek re-emerges from under several huge boulders, at a lower point downstream.

I visited the falls following a day of rain. As such, I encountered many slippery rock-surfaces along the trail down into the gorge. Hikers should use caution – walking sticks are a good idea – and appropriate footwear is strongly recommended!
