Island of Gitche Gumee
Imagine…the shores of Lake Superior, at Little Presque Isle, north of Marquette, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula…on a wall in your home, office, business lobby or cafeteria setting. Get the picture?
Well, infinite may be an exaggeration. It’s actually 400 three dimensional, metallic spheres arranged in a 20 x 20 grid. But, it’s really the reflection that sets this design apart from the average, as well as a close-to-surface point of view.
Here are a few sunrise photographs I recently shot while visiting the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, taken from several different scenic overlooks along the Foothills Parkway, near Wears Valley. Prints available.

After supper, I stepped outside to stretch my legs and enjoy the cool evening weather. It was a refreshing, pleasant walk, until I observed a strange metallic sphere hovering overhead…was it simply a drone delivering packages, or some sort of unidentified alien spacecraft? Actually, I believe that these lights may have been installed during the early 1980’s, but they nevertheless retain a futuristic quality worthy of being photographed – from Knoxville, Tennessee.
