Falling Water And Bridge

Water follows gravity under a wooden bridge, over small ledges and across a striated rock-surface. I shot this photograph along a small stream at Falls Creek Falls State Park. Prints and other items are available in my galleries at Pixels and/or Fine Art America. Enjoy!

I hope you’ll find a print for your home or office!

Fall Creek Falls

Following a period of rain, the clouds broke and sunshine filtered into the gorge and onto the 256-foot tall Fall Creek Falls, as seen from a nearby bluff. If you’d be interested in a print or other items featuring this photograph, then visit my gallery at Pixels. Thanks!

Falling Water Falls

Heading home from Georgia, I traveled northwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee, to visit the 110-foot waterfall called Falling Water Falls.

I found a parking spot – one of six available – as I arrived, and was soon at the overlook above the falls. It’s a very short hike along Little Falling Water Creek, on top of the Cumberland Escarpment, and the view is expansive! It is, however, difficult to see the waterfall except by looking down over the edge – probably a great location for photography using a drone.

Photographs

I asked two local hikers (Logan, Austin) about access to the base of the falls, though quickly decided against climbing down a rope affixed to the side of a cliff.

Laurel Falls At Savage Gulf

Location: in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area of the South Cumberland State Park, near Coalmont, Tennessee.

Laurel Falls stands 25-feet tall and is a short hike along a trail which begins behind the Stone Door Ranger Station…

This is a scenic hike suitable for all ages, with a small observation platform and easy access to the top of the falls. I couldn’t find an obvious path to the base of the falls, however, and there aren’t any safety rails – so, children and pets should be monitored closely.

Parking is close with handicap spaces available. There is a restroom and information billboard, also. If interested in a somewhat longer hike, you might consider an adjoining trailhead to The Stone Door.

Upper Greeter Falls

Located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, near Altamont, TN – and only a short hike from Lower Greeter Falls – is the 15-foot Upper Greeter Falls.

Along the trail, I spoke with a local who remarked that the water was higher than she could remember – here are a few photographs:

Further upstream beyond more trees and rocks, I saw these falls…

Lower Greeter Falls

Although drier conditions prevailed during my first visit to Lower Greeter Falls last autumn, recent rainfall provided for stunning views this time around! Located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area of Tennessee, it’s a short hike along a moderately difficult trail with elevation changes, rocks and mud.

Location

Flowing from Firescald Creek, Lower Greeter Falls stands approximately 50-feet tall, with access to the base of the falls requiring hikers to traverse a 24-step spiral metal stairwell. Easy enough, and the views are great! With no railing at the top, however, parents should closely monitor children.

Conasauga Falls

I recently had the opportunity to visit Conasauga Falls, a scenic waterfall located in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. At a distance of 1.3 miles out and back, the trail is rated as moderately difficult with a change in elevation of approx. 400-feet.

The trail has two switchbacks and no level stretches – it’s either all downhill, or uphill on the return. During my visit the creek was full, thereby reducing availability of access to other areas. However, if you wish to proceed downstream along the hillside, there is a minor path but it’s steep and very slippery – use caution!

The 3 mile road to the falls is a combination of paved and gravel, with areas where the pavement has deteriorated, and also deep potholes where the gravel begins. It’s not a major problem, but certainly good advice to drive slowly & steer clear of the hazards.

You can also read about my first visit to Conasauga Falls, last year.

Conasauga Falls

The trail is well kept and easy walking, except toward the bottom where some careful navigation over/around rocks is necessary. Steps finish the trail, leading hikers to the primary viewing area.

Downstream

Beyond Conasauga Falls and along a muddy embankment, I cautiously found my way to a lower elevation around a slight bend in the creek. I was greeted by the morning sun cresting over the highpoint of the Cherokee National Forest, casting a golden-green reflection from hillside foliage across the shallow water. What a sight!

Trail Is A Creek

No, this isn’t Bruce Creek – that’s located down a small hill to the left. This is the trail, which, essentially, has become a small creek following gravity. Better wear boots! See more.
