Cane Creek Falls, Tennessee

The following collection of photographs features Cane Creek Falls – a portion of the many shots I took while recently hiking Fall Creek Falls State Park, in Tennessee.

Prints of Cane Creek Falls – and other areas of the park – are available for your review in my gallery at Pixels. Selections include framed, canvas, art, wood, acrylic and metal prints. Other items available, too – stop by to see more!

If you’d like to visit the park, follow these directions:

Cane Creek Falls

Standing 85′ tall, Cane Creek Falls can be seen from the Nature Center (10821 Park Road), located near the entrance of Fall Creek Falls State Park. Guests may enjoy views of this waterfall and the sandstone gorge from either of two observation platforms, one of which provides easy access for handicapped visitors.

Here are some photographs of Cane Creek Falls

Next, to connect with the hiking trail near the Nature Center, it was necessary to walk along a suspension bridge in order to cross Cane Creek:

Supported with two expansive cables, the bridge was relatively unstable and shifted with each step. As such, I was later pleased with how well the next photograph turned out – taken from the center of the bridge:

Across the creek and then up some stairs, a sometimes rocky trail awaited my steps:

Another Point of View

I continued my hike around this first gorge, until I discovered another area from which to view Cane Creek Falls. Approaching this spot wasn’t easy – don’t trip over the edge! – nor was it necessarily prudent to cross the rudimentary fencing for a better photograph. Look closely at the third picture to see a man standing (left side) on the observation deck – across the gorge – located by the Nature Center:

I hope that you enjoyed this post, and please consider purchasing a print if interested. More pictures of my hike at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee will be forthcoming; until such time, thanks for visiting!

Down The Mountain

As part of my House Mountain in Knoxville, TN series…

Part Four: Conclusion

It was a great day hiking House Mountain, and I certainly would recommend this as a day-trip for anyone in the area wishing to enjoy the great outdoors! Bring the proper clothing, water and camera – and prepare to rest along the way to fully enjoy the scenery. And, expect to be sore the next day!

Following 4 miles of hiking up the Mountain Trail (blue trail) and back-and-forth along the Crest Trail, I began the 1-mile decent down the mountain. Here are some photographs I took along the way…

It’s difficult to see, but if you look closely at Photograph 3 & Photograph 4, you’ll observe that the trail turns abruptly at times, usually associated with steep, rocky terrain. In a few instances, I had to pack my camera in order to free both hands for a safe descent around such turns on the trail. So, be careful!

Visiting House Mountain –

If you’d like to review my collection of House Mountain photographs as prints, then stop by my gallery at Fine Art America to have a look around! Thanks.

I plan to return to the mountain for another hike, probably along a different (red) trail…so, see you then!

Shores of Lake Superior

It’s often said that a person can never go home again. That is, everything changes with time. Even memories fade. In fact, some recollections can become embellished to such a degree that they seem more wonderful than reality might otherwise have one believe. In such instances, a visit to a place from the past can fall flat in the face of one’s romanticized vision. Yet, with a different sense of appreciation – and at just the right moment – magic can happen and memories may be bested.

That was my experience, here. This rough shoreline strewn with rocks and driftwood is located on the shores of Lake Superior, in Michigan’s upper peninsula, north of Marquette at Little Presque Isle. Growing up in the area during my childhood, I had the opportunity to visit this spot several times over the years, as well as on a few occasions during my travels as an adult.

It should be noted that the shores of Lake Superior are dynamic, constantly changing as a result of storms and the seasons. That said, and while I’d always considered this spot a place of beauty, I was astounded during a visit in later years (this photograph) that the shoreline was even more compelling than I remembered – something I couldn’t have imagined until that day!

A great day, indeed. If you’d be interested in owning a print of this Michigan landscape, then please visit my gallery at Fine Art America. A variety of print types are available – framed, canvas, art, wood, metal and acrylic. I’ve also added this image to my gallery at Zazzle, where other items may be found.

I hope that you will enjoy this rugged, ever-changing landscape of Michigan’s upper peninsula on Lake Superior. Thanks for stopping by!

Snow In The Woods

Although falling snow can sometimes serve as an impediment for good photographs – large, blurred streaks – my walk today in the snow covered forest was a pleasant excursion into nature, where I found several nice winter scenes along the way. The trail I followed is located at Island Drive Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan, meandering aside the Huron River near the soccer fields of Fuller Park.
